Anal gland expressions gone wrong? #IfYouOnlyKnew …

Rescue Expert Blog

The ‘IfYouOnlyKnew’ campaign created by Rescue® and NAVTA started out as an educational portal with 3-10 minute modules to further educate Veterinary Technicians on the importance of choosing and using the right disinfectants. Progressing into a social media contest a few months after, giving Vet Techs an opportunity to share their funniest, smelliest and craziest stories while on the job. The contest began on February 6th and ended on October 15th 2018.

The contest saw a wide range of entries ranging from anal gland expressions gone wrong, baby goats being breast fed, and one of our most popular entry of a cow birth being performed at gun point. There was a mix of the good, the bad, and the hilarious from Vet Techs from all over the United States as they shared their wildest stories for a chance to win a monthly prize or 1 of 3 grand prizes of an all-expense paid trip to Fetchdvm360 in San Diego.

Monthly winners were selected based on the criteria of being the funniest, wildest, or most interesting entry received, then shared on the If You Only Knew contest website and on both the Rescue® and NAVTA Facebook pages.

Ending on a big high, the grand prize draw occurred on October 16th with 3 lucky Vet Techs selected at random emerging as our winners. Their grand prize package includes a round trip flight to San Diego, accommodation, meals, and a private beachfront dinner with Dr. Marty Becker and Dr. Julie Reck of Fear Free Pets.

Congratulations to our grand prize winners: Sara K. from Everett, WA., Amelia C. from Boynton Beach, FL. and Ruth G. from Philadelphia, PA., and a huge thank you to every Vet Tech who shared their story in the contest. Thank you for all you do for the animal community, and we hope that by sharing your wildest Vet Tech moment, you got a chance to remember why you do what you do, even when it’s not the prettiest.

Although the contest is over, you can still visit the educational portal viroxlearning.com to learn more about disinfecting and to become the Veterinary Infection Preventionist at your clinic.
